FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Tom Brady will miss the entire season with a left knee injury that needs surgery, leaving the New England Patriots without one of the game’s great quarterbacks and severely damaging their hopes of a return trip to the Super Bowl.

The 2007 NFL Most Valuable Player will be placed on injured reserve, the Patriots said Monday, one day after Brady’s knee collapsed under him when he was hit by Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard in the first quarter of a 17-10 victory over Kansas City.

“As a team we all just have to do our jobs. That really doesn’t change,” New England coach Bill Belichick said. “He played one position, he played it very well. We have somebody else playing that position now.”

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday the team was set to bring in quarterback Chris Simms on Monday for a workout. Journeyman Tim Rattay was also to be considered, Mortensen reported.

I don’t think there has been a Bigger QB injury for a team let alone the NFL since Michael Vick against the Ravens in pre-season in 2003.  The year after the Falcons went into Green Bay and beat Brett Favre and the Pack for the first time in history in the playoffs and looked like a potential Super Bowl Contender in 2004 until the injury.

The NFL seriously has to consider changing the Pre-season format now if you ask me with all of these season ending injuries going around. Did Brady get hurt in the Pre-Season, no, but I also think he would have played in the pre-season if there were only like 2 games. I know Bill Belichick likes to play games with the injury reports and such and even though Tom Brady wasn’t supposedly hurt going into the regular season he should have still played to get into game shape and those eyes in the back of the head that come with playing in the regular season if you ask me.

I think this injury brings the Pats back to the pack in the AFC East, no longer are they Heads and Shoulders above the rest of the division.  The Jets are much improved with all of their off season moves from the Offensive line to Brett Favre which they showed yesterday beating the Dolphins in a close game in Miami.  Speaking of the Dolphins they are much impoved as well looking they could win %500 more games this year if not more.  Chad Pennington has really been embraced there and they look like they can competed as apossed to last year when they looked like the could be beat by many College teams.  The Bills took the Seattle Seahawks over their knee on sunday and spanked them all the way back to Seattle, just opening a can of whoop ass 34-10.  Their Defense as well as their Special Teams are as good as anyone’s in the NFL if we are basing this off the first game of the year and additions teams made this year.

The Patriots will now turn to long time back up Matt Cassel who hasn’t started a Football game since Friday Nights in Highschool.  How you ask??? Well when you go to USC and back up 2 Hesiman Trophy winners in Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart  you’re not going to get too many starts whey they only get sacked around 10 times a year.  I think Cassel can lead them to the AFC East division title but I don’t think it will be likely. I don’t think people will fear the Patriots as they did with Tom Brady for obvious reason but they still should be able to do well at home as they have done in the past.
